Police have charged a man with DUI in a two-car wreck on Thompson Bridge Road, authorities said Tuesday. There were no injuries, but the accident knocked out power and other services for residents in the area.

A Jeep Liberty driven by 21-year-old Jeffery Michael Boisclair was traveling on Thompson Bridge Road and rear-ended a vehicle in the road, and then hit a light pole, Gainesville police said.

Cpl. Joe Britte, spokesman for the Gainesville Police Department, said the 10:44 a.m. accident was a hit and run.

“The white male driver fled on foot, but we caught him at the BP station on Thompson Bridge Road,” Britte said.

Boisclair has been charged with six misdemeanors: DUI of drugs, suspended license, possession of marijuana, possession of a drug object, failure to maintain lane and leaving the scene of an accident with injury or damage.

The damaged pole knocked out power for 61 customers, a spokeswoman for Georgia Power said. Cable TV and Internet service also was affected for some in the area.

The suspect could face additional charges related to damage of property, Britte said.

Boisclair is a convicted felon, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records.

He served a period of about three months incarceration from June to September 2011 at Coastal State Prison near Savannah.

In 2011, he was convicted of the felony offenses of violation of a dangerous drug act and possession of stimulant counterfeit drugs, and sentenced to five years on each charge. He was also sentenced to 12-month terms for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and theft of services.

Boisclair was not charged with a probation warrant violation, indicating his sentence was paroled.

He has been booked in at the Hall County Jail.
