A man has been charged with arson and aggravated battery in a Memorial Day fire that injured a 56-year-old woman.

David Egypt Young, 56, of Flowery Branch is in custody at the Hall County Jail.

Jane Thomas, 56, was flown Monday from the Flowery Branch home in the 3600 block of Osborn Road to Grady Memorial Hospital. She suffered second- and third-degree burns to 30 percent of her body.

Young was reported in stable condition at Grady about mid-morning Thursday.

The fire started in the basement, which was a separate living area of the house, Zachary Brackett, public information officer for Hall County Fire Services, said.

Both were in the basement area at the time of the fire, he reported.

The fire was the result of an argument between the two, he said, but the reason for the argument was not known.

“Mr. Young and Ms. Thomas had some belongings at the home, but this is not believed to be their full-time residence,” he said.
