Evan Leon Lee, 24, of Dahlonega was arrested on four felony counts after authorities say they discovered hallucinogenic mushrooms and marijuana growing in his home at 171 Laurel Circle.

"After 22 years in law enforcement I’ve never actually seized an indoor psilocybin mushroom grow" said Sheriff Mark T. McClure. "This type of seizure is extremely rare."

The investigation began Sunday when deputies went to the address as part of an investigation related to a vehicle chase in Dawson County. Deputies saw marijuana leaves in plain view outside the residence and saw what appeared to be an operation to grow mushrooms inside, according to Capt. Jason Stover with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.

During a search of the residence, an agent with Lumpkin County’s Appalachian Drug Task Force found packaged psilocybin (hallucinogenic) mushrooms, additional psilocybin mushrooms growing, seven marijuana plants, grow lights and other drug paraphernalia, according to Stover.

Lee, who was not at home at the time, was arrested later by Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office and the Appalachian Drug Task Force. He was charged with possession of more than an ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, manufacturing marijuana and manufacturing psilocybin mushrooms.

Lee is being held at the Lumpkin County Detention Center on a $25,100 bond.
