Speed limits on Martin Road are likely on their way down.

With a traffic study finished, the Hall County Board of Commissioners is on track to lower the 45 mph limit to 35 between Atlanta Highway and JM Turk Road and to 40 mph between JM Turk Road and Winder Highway.

The lower speed limits affect 1.9 miles of road, said Hall County Public Works Director Ken Rearden, with the new 35 mph portion running a half mile and the 40 mph portion running 1.4 miles.

Commissioners will hold their final public hearing on the speed limit change and vote on March 22. If the new limits are approved, the new speed signs will be in place in early April, Rearden said on Wednesday.

The new limits went before the commission for the first time on Tuesday, March 6.
