Funeral services will be held Sunday for longtime Hall County educator, Gwendolyn Mundy, who was described as "a leader among leaders."

"She was just a very involved lady," said Lee Lovett, deputy superintendent of Hall County Schools. "She was a great lady to work with, she was a lady that you knew where she stood, she said what she meant and she meant what she said."

"It's a great loss for all of Hall County for the wonderful things she did for the children while she was part of the educational system for so many years," said Gordon Higgins, spokesman for Hall County Schools.

Among her many titles, Mundy served as a member of the Brenau Board of Trustees since 1992.

Ed Schrader, president of Brenau University, said in a statement that "Gwen Mundy was a dedicated professional educator with a passion for teaching well.... She leaves an enduring legacy for future generations."

Sid Smith served with Mundy on the Brenau Board of Trustees and said she helped develop and improve education in Hall County.

"Gwen was an asset to Brenau and an asset to the community," he said. "She knew a lot about education and that's what we were about on the board at Brenau."

Mundy was 82 when she died Thursday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Visitation will take place 5-8 p.m. today at Little Davenport Funeral Home, 355 Dawsonville Highway, Gainesville.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at Flat Creek Baptist Church, 5504 Flat Creek Road, Gainesville.

Lovett said he was saddened by Mundy's death because she was a great friend and co-worker.

"I'm very saddened to learn it," he said. "She will be missed."
