I noticed there’s a large American flag flying at Camping World in Oakwood, just off Interstate 985. How big is it?

The flag, installed by Symonds Flags and Poles Inc., is 40 feet by 80 feet on a 130-foot pole, according to Camping World General Manager Jonathan Robertson.

It was put up about two weeks ago, and Robertson said they’ve heard a lot of positive reaction.

“Half an hour ago, I had a Vietnam Veteran call in and just thank us for flying the flag and putting it up and showing our patriotism in support of country,” Robertson said Friday afternoon.

He said he also got a hand-written note about how much the tax commissioner loved the flag.

Hall County Tax Commissioner Darla Eden said it made her jaw drop and she had to thank the business owner.

“Displaying a flag is optional, and it’s a beautiful tribute to America,” Eden said. “But when the flag is that beautifully done and as breathtaking as that flag is on the interstate — beautifying the interstate and a tribute to America — you can’t help but take notice.”

A flag that size runs $2,863 to $3,246, according to the Symonds’ website. The Texas-based company sells flags up to 60 feet by 120 feet.
