A Johnson High School student allegedly in possession of a stolen gun was arrested Monday on the campus of East Hall High School.

Rigoberto Garcia, 17, faces felony charges of underage possession a firearm, possession of a firearm on school property and theft by receiving of firearms.

“The Hall County School District has immediately suspended Rigoberto Garcia from school pending a disciplinary tribunal,” Gordon Higgins, school spokesman, said in a statement Tuesday. “He is prohibited from being on any school campus in the district.”

Garcia was arrested while a passenger in a vehicle parked at East Hall High, according to a Hall County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Garcia reportedly relinquished a stolen Glock 40-caliber semi-automatic pistol to the driver, who was a person from the Department of Juvenile Justice, who then turned it over to a school resource officer.

Garcia never entered the high school.

On Oct. 20, Sheriff’s Office deputies found a stolen 12-gauge shotgun at Garcia’s residence in the 2500 block of Oakdale Drive in Gainesville. Garcia was not home at the time. Warrants for his arrest were issued three days later.
