The $147 million reconstruction of the Interstate 85/Ga. 316 interchange is set to be completed Saturday, more than two months ahead of schedule.
Weather permitting, work will be completed by 6 a.m. Wednesday on the final two miles of the northbound I-85 high occupancy vehicle lane from Sugarloaf Parkway to Ga. 317, or Lawrenceville/Suwanee Road.
Also by that time, striping of a new, two-mile northbound auxiliary lane from Old Peachtree Road to Ga. 317 will be finished.
"This auxiliary lane will give motorists more room to merge on and off the interstate," said Russell McMurry, district engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation.
A top layer of asphalt on I-85 from Pleasant Hill Road to Ga. 317 will be added, starting Wednesday night and ending Saturday morning, with working taking place overnights only.
That work will require closing one to three lanes between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day.
