Renovations started Wednesday for Hall County Fire Services Station 7, where officials said firefighters have lived in tight quarters.

The changes at the East Crescent Drive station are expected to take four to six weeks.

“Station 7 has been scheduled for renovations for a while now due to its age and its overall limitations,” Hall County spokeswoman Katie Crumley said.

Flooring, ceilings, bathrooms and the living space are the main points of interest, with a hope to double the living space for the fire department personnel at the station.

“The quarters that they were currently in right now were quite frankly too cramped,” Assistant County Administrator Marty Nix said, though no exact dimensions were given.

Crumley said the station was built in 1983 to house seven people. Eleven people are in the space today.

Personnel are still at the station, but Crumley said they have been relocated to another area of the building not being renovated.

“We don’t anticipate response times being compromised at all,” Crumley said.

The station renovations come at a time of growth along the Ga. 365 corridor that is served by the station, Crumley said.

“In order to plan for that growth that will only continue, we need to make sure the fire station that serves that direct area also keeps up with that growth and development,” she said.
