Ice formed on Hall County overpasses and bridges in below-freezing temperatures Monday morning.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office warned drivers to use caution on New Year’s Day, when the high will be around freezing and the low will be in the teens.

Low daily temperatures are expected to be in the teens through the week, but Hall County will get above freezing during the day.

The Sheriff’s Office put out a notice on social media shortly before 9 a.m. Monday saying that dispatchers had received “numerous reports” of ice forming on bridges and overpasses in the county.

Light snow was falling during the morning around Gainesville, according to the National Weather Service recording station at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport. Little or no accumulation was expected, though temperatures are forecast to stay at or below freezing throughout the day as New Year’s Day rings in the coldest temperatures of the season so far. Overnight lows will fall into the mid-teens.

The cold air will settle in for the week, with high temperatures struggling to reach 40 by midweek and overnight lows staying in the upper teens and lower 20s. No rain is in the five-day forecast.
