Gainesville police have identified the victim in Saturday’s homicide at Sun Suites extended stay hotel.

The victim is Harmon V. Lavender, 52, of Gainesville. It was determined after an autopsy Monday that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds.

Gainesville police have safely located Jose Garcia-Flores, a man they say is connected to the case and whose welfare they were concerned about, according to a news release.

Authorities said they believe the incident is isolated.

The 911 call around 2 p.m. Saturday came from a hotel employee, said Gainesville Police Department spokesman Cpl. Kevin Holbrook, at the 1115 Jesse Jewell Parkway location.

Lavender’s body was transferred to the state crime lab in DeKalb County for a preliminary autopsy performed Monday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and local police are continuing their investigation, and no other details were available.
