A hot air balloon landed safely in Lake Lanier Sunday night, Hall County Fire Services reported.

County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said the balloon’s pilot was traveling north on the lake when he experienced a wind direction change around 8 p.m.

Knowing the regulations of having to be on the ground by sunset, Cagle said, the balloon operator decided to land in Old Federal Park but ended up short in the water.

Nearby boaters helped pull in the balloon and its four occupants and there were no injuries, Cagle said.
