Hall County Fire Services crews found 20 horses and two dogs dead following a Friday night chicken house fire in East Hall.

Firefighters responded around 10 p.m. to the call on Pillsbury Road off Three Bridges Road in east Hall County that was engulfed in flames.

A 200-foot chicken house was 70 percent involved with fire. Extinguishing the fire was made more difficult because the nearest source of water was just over a half mile away, so a water shuttle was used.

Fire Services Capt. Zachary Brackett said crews worked until 2:07 a.m. Saturday to put the fire out.

“The chicken house was being leased out for use as a horse stable,” Brackett wrote in an email.

No other injuries were reported. The cause was found to be accidental.

Fire crews requested sand and gravel from Hall County Public Works at the intersection “due to icing from trucks filling with water,” Brackett said. A water tanker from Jackson County was also requested.
