The chief justice of the federal court district that includes Gainesville has signed an order appointing a new U.S. attorney.
John Horn has served as acting and interim U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia since January. Acting and interim U.S. attorney appointments expire after a certain period of time and then the district court must appoint a U.S. attorney.
The appointment, effective Monday, will remain in effect until the president nominates a U.S. attorney and the Senate confirms the appointment.
Horn, a career prosecutor, has been with the U.S. attorney's office in Atlanta since 2002. He was first assistant U.S. attorney under U.S. Attorney Sally Yates for six years. Yates left to go to Washington to become deputy attorney general in the Justice Department.
