Home heating assistance is available

Households in which every member is age 65 and older or in which every member is unable to leave home because of health reasons may apply for assistance with their home heating bills beginning on Nov. 1.

One-time payments from the Georgia Department of Human Resources will be made by checks issued to the home energy suppliers on behalf of eligible households. Eligibility is based on the income of everyone living in a home.

To apply, verification of ages, Social Security numbers and incomes from the last 30 days is needed for all the home’s occupants. Also, the most recent home heating bill is required.

Depending on the availability of funds, the regular program will open to the general public on Dec. 1.
