Free health screenings, including blood pressure checks, body mass index calculations, cholesterol testing and more, will be available to the public Wednesday.

The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce will host its annual HealthSmart Breakfast and Expo on Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Gainesville Civic Center.

Beginning at 7:30 a.m., the public can take part in the expo and receive information from nearly 60 wellness vendors. Kit Dunlap, chamber president, said the event is about more than just receiving information.

“The whole thing was not just to have an expo with people handing out printed material, but actually doing some active screenings, whether it’s testing your hearing, testing your heart. We’ll be giving out wellness information, but offering free screenings to the community is the heart of it.”

Attendees can discuss their reports with physicians from the Longstreet Clinic P.C. at the expo. Screenings will be provided by Longstreet, Good News Clinic and Lanier Technical College. Dunlap said free T-shirts will be given to the first 100 people who get a screening.

Dunlap said the breakfast from 7:30-9 a.m. will include an address from Anthony Williams, president of Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton.

“He is going to talk about not only the new hospital and the facilities, but their efforts in making it a green facility and the grounds around it and wellness efforts,” Dunlap said. “The whole thing kind of fits in with our HealthSmart program.”

The new hospital in Braselton will open next spring, according to Dunlap, and will bring heart and vascular services, orthopedics, neurosciences, cancer treatment, and general, surgical and emergency services to the area.

The cost to attend the HealthSmart breakfast is $10 for chamber members and $15 for nonmembers. For breakfast reservations, contact Megan Martin at
