A legislative joint study committee addressing violence against health care workers now has until Dec. 31 to complete its report.
The deadline had been set for Tuesday but was extended by the committee, said Laurie Sparks, legislative assistant at the state Capitol.
A resolution approved by the General Assembly earlier this year created the committee to study the issue and recommend any actions or legislation it “deems necessary or appropriate.”
The resolution states more than 80 percent of all hospital staff have been assaulted at least once in their career.
One of the panel’s members is Kay Hall, a registered nurse now serving as operations manager at Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s emergency room.
