It was a busy night for law enforcement on the eve of the new year — even busier than one might expect for the holidays.
“Our numbers (of traffic citations) were up this year mostly because there were more people traveling on the roadways,” said Hall County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes.
She said the special operations division of the sheriff’s office issued 60 speeding tickets, 36 warnings and two DUI citations. The numbers did not include regular patrol citations, she added.
“It was our goal (on New Year’s Eve) to have concentrated traffic enforcement throughout the county. There has been a tragic rise in fatal motor vehicle accidents on our roadways in Hall County this year. We wanted to be aggressive to ensure motorists arrived at their destinations safely. We want drivers to slow down, and drive responsibly.”
