After weeks of silence about the future of the old Hall County Jail in Gainesville, the Hall County Board of Commissioners moved to put the ball in the Gainesville City Council’s court. The Times acquired a draft letter Monday from Hall County Chairman Tom Oliver to Gainesville Mayor Danny Dunagan saying that the county would not consider Gainesville’s offer to buy the jail unless the city agreed to assume all liability if a lawsuit were brought by the current tenant, Corrections Corp. of America. CCA has been using the facility to house detainees of the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
