Tax assessment notices are hitting the mail on Friday, the county announced on Wednesday. Notices include estimated taxes owed on property, but isn’t a bill, according to the county. The 2017 estimate is based on the current assessed value and the 2016 tax rate.

Property owners have 45 days to appeal their assessment by mail or in person at the county offices on 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville.

Taxes are levied on both land and improvements.
