Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an aggravated battery and possible rape that occurred Sunday afternoon on Tulip Drive.

Two people were visiting friends who live on the dead-end road when they found a 49-year-old woman lying in a ditch.

When deputies arrived at about 2 p.m. they found the victim partially clothed and suffering from a head wound.

“The wound to her head was inflicted by some sort of blunt object,” Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks with the Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and is listed in serious but stable condition.

The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is investigating and is waiting to interview the victim, who is thought to be able to provide more leads.

Because of the nature of the crime the victim’s name won’t be released and other details were not yet available.

Wilbanks said the people who discovered her did the right thing by calling 911 immediately.

He said in a situation like this a citizen could check for vital signs but should not attempt to move the victim.

Moving a victim with a head or neck injury could make the injury worse.

Anyone who may have information on this case should call the Sheriff’s Office crime tip line at 770-503-3232.
