The third case of rabies in Hall County for 2019 was found in the 5400 block of Jerry Burruss Road in Murrayville.
Hall County officials said in a news release on Monday, April 29, that the encounter involved contact between a raccoon and a dog.
The Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur tested the raccoon for rabies. Hall County Animal Control received confirmation on Friday, April 26 that the raccoon held positive rabies results.
Positive alert signs will be posted around the area where the rabid raccoon was located. Those who witness an animal acting abnormally in Hall County are advised to contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or during non-working hours call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.
“Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies,” the press release stated.
People can purchase $10 rabies vaccines for their pets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday at Hall County Animal Shelter on 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville.
