Hall County, Gainesville law officials honored

Gov. Sonny Perdue has appointed Hall County Sheriff Steve D. Cronic to the board of commissioners of the Sheriff’s Retirement Fund of Georgia, in an announcement made Wednesday.

Cronic, 50, is also a member of the State Board of Public Safety.

He is a board member of the Hall County Commission for Children and Families, the Edmondson-Telford Center for Children. He is a member of the County and Municipal Probation Advisory Council, Northeast Georgia Police Academy Advisory Council, Georgia Sheriff’s Association and the Domestic Violence Task Force. Cronic earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Brenau University. He and his wife, Kathy, have two children.

Gainesville Police Chief Frank Hooper, while attending the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in Savannah this week, was elected as chairman of the association’s district representatives. Hooper will occupy a position on the association’s executive board. He also is co-chairman of the association’s Certification Committee, Mental Health Study Committee, and represents the association on the Georgia Emergency Management All Hazards Council for Area 1, which includes most of Northeast Georgia.

Hooper also was awarded the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Outstanding Chief of the Year Award last year.
