A robbery and kidnapping suspect was shot by a Gwinnett officer following a car chase early Monday morning in Buford.

Around 1:30 a.m. Monday, Gwinnett County Police responded to a call of an armed robbery and kidnapping at a residence above a Citgo gas station on Thompson Mill Road in Buford.

The caller told police that an armed male suspect broke into the home, took several items and then left with the caller’s male roommate in his own vehicle.

The first officer responding to the call located the victim’s vehicle and a short car chase ensued, but the vehicle eventually was stopped on Arden Drive near Pebble Lane. The officer confronted the suspect, who still was wearing a bandana that was covering his face. The suspect brandished a weapon and the officer was forced to shoot the suspect, who was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Neither the victim nor the officer were injured in the incident.

Gwinnett County Police still are investigating the incident and neither the name of the suspect nor the officer involved have been released.

The suspect could face criminal charges including armed robbery, kidnapping, false imprisonment and aggravated assault.
