Green Street closing today for holiday event
1205green1
Green Street will be closed this Sunday afternoon for the annual Christmas on Green event. Visitors will be able to stroll along the normally busy street to view the historic homes decorated for the season.

The busy traffic on Green Street today will be people instead of cars as Gainesville celebrates its annual Christmas on Green festivities.

And that means drivers will have to find another way through town.

The road will shut down to the north where it veers off to Riverside Drive at the Gainesville Civic Center all the way to Academy Street to the south. It will be closed from 3:45 to 7:30 p.m., with the Christmas parade coming through starting at 4:45 p.m. and the lighting of the Rotary Club holly tree at Academy Street set for 7 p.m.

Drivers can use South Enota Drive and Limestone Parkway to bypass the area.

Police officers will be on hand to assist with traffic control and detours.
