A doublewide mobile home near Gillsville was deemed a total loss after a fire early Wednesday morning.

Hall County firefighters received the call at about 6:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found that fire had spread through 30 percent of the home at 5089 Buffington Road in East Hall, said Capt. Scott Cagle, fire marshal.

The home’s occupants, two adults and two teenagers, were standing outside the home.

They said that a smoke alarm inside the home alerted them to the fire, Cagle said.

A prefabricated fireplace, "as of right now, does appear to be where the fire started," he said, adding that he is unsure of the exact cause and that the fire is still under investigation.

Fire consumed half the mobile home, which sustained smoke and heat damage throughout.

American Red Cross is providing the residents with some assistance, Cagle said.

Also, "firefighters were able to ... salvage a lot of personal property," he added.
