The GBI is investigating a death at the Hall County Jail Thursday morning, according to Sgt. Kiley Sargent with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Sabrina Mitchell, 29, of Jefferson became ill, fainted and went into cardiac arrest at about 8 a.m., Sargent said.

Medical personnel attempted to revive her but were unsuccessful. It is standard procedure for the GBI to investigate all deaths of those in custody.

Mitchell had been at the jail since April 3, arrested for traffic violations and also awaiting transfer for holds and charges in Jackson and Clarke counties, Sargent said.

Foul play is not suspected, he said. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
