A 53-year-old Gainesville woman died at an Atlanta hospital after a Monday morning two-car wreck on Athens Street in Gainesville.

Hall County Coroner Marion Merck’s office identified the victim as Barbara Ann Myrick.

She was driving a 1988 Honda Accord southbound on Athens Street when she crossed the center line and struck head-on a tractor-trailer, said Cpl. Kevin Holbrook, Gainesville Police Department spokesman.

The tractor-trailer, a 2011 International semitruck, was stopped in the northbound lane of Athens Street, Holbrook said.

The wreck took place about 11:15 a.m. at Purina Drive. Myrick was flown by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital.

The tractor-trailer driver did not suffer any injuries, Holbrook said.

Holbrook didn’t have other details, including the tractor-trailer driver’s name.

Gainesville police are still investigating the accident.
