Gainesville police are still investigating a report of an armed robbery at Gainesville's Holiday Inn on the first morning of the New Year.

A spokesman for city police said a man reported that two black males entered his room around 6:40 a.m. and struck him with an unknown object before taking off with a laptop and television.

"We do take the security of our guests very seriously, so we're trying to work closely with the police to address this issue," said Beth Truelove, director of marketing for the hotel.

This is the first instance of a robbery at the hotel in the 20 years Truelove has been employed, she said.

"We provide our guests with information on how to be safe and secure when traveling ... just the safety and security of being in a different place," Truelove said.

Investigators are still trying to determine the facts in the case and have not made an arrest or named possible suspects.
