Officers from the Gainesville Police Department arrested a motorcyclist Friday after he led police on a short chase.

An officer attempted to make a routine traffic stop for speeding, but rather than pull over, Frankie Reese drove onto the shoulder of Dawsonville Highway near Lake Lanier Club to pass stopped cars ahead of him, Holbrook said.

The suspect then ran a red light "and continued at a high rate of speed until he reached another group of vehicles," Holbrook said.

After moving into the right lane to pass more stopped cars, another vehicle attempted to merge into the lane. At that point, the motorcycle hit the vehicle at McEver's Corner shopping center and Reese lost control, Holbrook said.

He was charged with red light violation, too fast for conditions, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, speeding and fleeing/attempting to elude. He received minor injuries from the wreck and was booked into the Hall County Jail.
