A Gainesville man must serve 25 years of a life sentence after being convicted of molesting a girl continuously for three years, according to officials.

Alejandro Martinez-Arias, 41, was convicted on counts of aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery and child molestation. He received a life sentence with 25 years to be served in prison along with sex offender conditions.

The guilty verdict was handed down Friday in Superior Court Judge Andrew Fuller’s court.

According to Northeastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Lee Darragh, the victim and Martinez-Arias knew each other.

The victim was first abused when she was 9 years old, and she told a family member about the abuse after three years.
