A grand jury returned a more serious charge of attempted murder for a Gainesville man accused of shooting an acquaintance multiple times.

Russell Lee Toler, 42, was charged with attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault by a Hall County grand jury Tuesday.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigators previously accused Toler of shooting Torrance Siglar, an acquaintance, “three times in the chest” July 9 after an argument.

At the time, he faced one count of aggravated assault.

Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Ware said Toler allegedly shot the man with a .22 caliber handgun in the 1300 block of Marlow Drive in Hall County.

Toler’s attorney Chris Van Rossem declined to comment.

In July, Ware said Siglar was recovering in the hospital from injuries “not considered to be life-threatening.”

The lieutenant said investigators believe the two were co-workers, but they did not disclose the content of the argument.
