Local residents can apply for help with their home heating bills from Ninth District Opportunity Inc. beginning Monday.

Households in which every member is age 65 and older or in which every member is unable to leave the home for health reasons are eligible. Eligibility also is based on household income; households also must be responsible for their home heating bills.  Ninth District Opportunity will make one-time payments to the home energy supplier on behalf of the household.

To apply, residents must present verification of age of all household members; household income within the past 30 days, in the form of check stubs, public assistant or unemployment checks, etc.; verification of all Social Security numbers for each household member; and the most recent home heating bill.

The program may become open to the general public on Dec. 1 depending on the availability of funds.

To apply, contact Ninth District Opportunity at 770-534-8826 beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, or visit the Army Reserve office from 9 a.m. to noon. More information is offered online at www.ndo.org.
