It’s official — the gateway to Gainesville High School between Pearl Nix Parkway and Century Place has been renamed Deshaun Watson Way in honor of the former Red Elephant quarterback who helped lead Clemson University to the national title in January.

City Council members Tuesday night unanimously voted their final approval to change the name from Touchdown Drive.

Mayor Danny Dunagan will dedicate Deshaun Watson Way during a ceremony Sunday at 5 p.m. to culminate the 125th anniversary of Gainesville High. The gridiron star’s mother, Deann, will accompany the mayor at the ceremony.
