Tax Day doesn’t often put people in the best of spirits, but a few businesses are trying to at least ease the sting of filing taxes.
One of those is Kona Ice of Greater Gainesville, which is holding a “Chill Out Day” Monday by showing up at local businesses throughout the day and giving away shaved ice. It will also park its truck at Xtreme Xplosives on Riverside Drive from 4-6 p.m. for people to visit when they get off work.
“Our motto is no taxation without relaxation,” said Morgan Kleiber, owner/operator of the local Kona Ice.
For those wanting a different sweet taste, Great American Cookies will be giving away one original chocolate chip cookie per customer Monday. It has locations in Lakeshore Mall in Gainesville and Mall of Georgia in Buford.
“Whether or not you’re receiving a refund this year, Great American Cookies is here to add some more dough to your life,” said Brand Vice President David Kaiser in a press release. “We know tax season can be a bit of a bummer, and there’s no better way to take the edge off than with a sweet reward from Great American Cookies.”
The Sonny’s BBQ on Mundy Mill Road is giving a 50 percent discount all day Monday on its “Sweet & Smokey” and “House Dry-Rubbed” rib dinners, which come with two sides and bread.
Also, the Schlotszky’s on Broad Street in Gainesville is offering a free “Original Sandwich” with the purchase of a 32-ounce drink and a bag of chips Monday.
