A 48-year-old woman has died as a result of injuries suffered in a head-on collision Wednesday night in north Forsyth.

The wreck occurred about 6:30 p.m on Dahlonega Highway, north of Keith Bridge Road.

Rhonda McGinnis of Sexton Road, Cumming, died at North Fulton Regional Hospital, authorities said.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Shelton said McGinnis was traveling north on Dahlonega Highway in her 2000 Honda Accord when she crossed the centerline.

The Honda struck a southbound 2005 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Tracy Anne Bertini of Fieldstone View Circle, Cumming.

Both Bertini, 35, and her 15-year-old son were wearing seat belts and were not seriously injured in the collision, Shelton said.

There were no passengers in McGinnis’ vehicle.

Shelton said she was not wearing a seat belt and had apparently been eating while she was driving, which may have contributed to the wreck. A sandwich and fries were found in McGinnis’ car.

Authorities are checking whether drugs or alcohol may have been involved, which is standard procedure.

The fatal wreck is the eighth on Forsyth County roads this year and the first since November.

All the deaths have occurred since May, with four in June.

Authorities have said "inattentiveness while driving" was a common thread in each of the wrecks.
