A former Hall County jailer was arrested Monday and charged with sexual assault involving contact with a female inmate.
Marcell Allen, 26, was booked into the Hall County Jail on Monday on one count of sexual assault of a person in custody, according to a news release from sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks. He was terminated from his job at the time of arrest, Wilbanks said.
Allen later was released on bond.
The charges stemmed from an investigation into inappropriate contact with a female inmate in the Hall County Jail in July.
The sheriff’s office was made aware of the situation last week, according to the news release, and requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation investigate the incident. GBI agents obtained warrants for Allen’s arrest Monday, and the jailer surrendered himself.
This case remains under investigation by the GBI and no further information was made available.
