Evening thunderstorms in Northeast Georgia could bring floods, heavy winds and hail, the National Weather Service warns.

A flash flood warning is in effect until 3:45 a.m. Sunday for Hall, Dawson, Lumpkin and Forsyth counties. Storms could bring pea-sized hail, lightning and winds up to 40 mph to those counties plus Jackson, Gwinnett and Barrow, where a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect.

Recent storms have saturated the ground, making flooding in roadways possible during heavy rains. Friday's afternoon storm brought nearly an inch of rain in an hour to downtown Gainesville.

Residents are warned to be careful driving at night in areas where roads, highways and underpasses may be flooded. Flooding is possible along creeks, streams, farmlands, woodlands and low-lying areas.

The NWS forecast calls for storms ending later tonight with a low around 71. Sunday brings a 60 percent chance of more storms and a high in the lower 80s. The chance of storm continues Sunday night, with lows in the lower 70s.
