Five children injured in I-985 wreck near Oakwood

Five children and two adults were injured in a single-vehicle wreck at about 6:45 a.m. Thursday, May 2 on Interstate 985, south of exit 16.

The driver, Demesha Tanner, 26, is in serious condition. Kelvin Langston, 31, was ejected from the vehicle and is in stable condition. One other passenger, a child, was ejected.

A 17-month-old female and 7-year-old male are both in stable condition while a 3-year-old male, 4-year old male and 9-year-old female have been released from the hospital.

Everyone involved is from Gainesville and are members of the same family.

According to a press release, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office found that a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling southbound on the interstate when it “sustained a tire failure and overturned twice, coming to rest in the southbound lanes of the interstate.” The crash happened near the Plainview Road bridge.

Hall County Fire Services transported two of the children to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and the other three children along with the two adults to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

The accident is still under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit.
