A fire got out of control Friday afternoon at a house on Friendship Road in South Hall County when sparks caught a car on fire and then spread to the home.

Firefighters responded to the blaze about 2:15 at a 1,800-square-foot home in the 2600 block of Friendship Road.

"It appears to have started from a possibly unattended controlled burn and got into a vehicle that was behind the house ... and then extended on to the house," said Battalion Chief Chad Black, with the Hall County Fire Department.

The vehicle was destroyed, but most of the damage to the house was confined to the outside, with some damage to the attic, Black said.

Damage is estimated to be about $30,000.

"We were able to get in and do an aggressive attack and get a quick knock down on it," Black said.

Fire Chief David Kimbrell said the fire may have gotten out of control because of a breeze.

While fire crews were battling the blaze they shut down both lanes of Friendship Road for about 45 minutes.

The fire is still being investigated by the Hall County Fire Department.
