The people have spoken and WomenSource has responded accordingly.

This week the organization will kick off its fall women’s health series.

“After each of our luncheons ask (participants) to complete an evaluation,” said Latrell Simpson, WomenSource board member.

“We use those evaluations to determine what topics people are interested in. Health is one of those topics that has repeatedly come up.”

WomenSource is a nonprofit organization that connects women to professional resources in the community.

In addition to monthly lunch and learn sessions, the group — which was founded in 2008 — also is host to regular educational seminars.

“This is our first health series, but in the past we also had a series focused on financial issues,” Simpson said.

The fall health series will include a free lecture on the second Thursday in September, October and November.

This week, the topic will be women and heart disease.

In October, the lecture will focus on hormone replacement therapy, and in November the focus will be breast health and breast feeding.

“Health overall has been a consistent high priority topic, but these are specific issues that have generated a lot of interest (with luncheon participants),” Simpson said.

Although the series’ sessions are free, attendees are asked to pre-register, so that organizers can have enough food on hand; each event will include a light dinner.

“You don’t have to be a WomenSource member to attend,” Simpson said.

Each of the three sessions for the series will be held in the Walters Auditorium at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
