As Katy Perry’s “Roar” blared from the back of a pickup truck, Fair Street School students and teachers waved, danced and walked their way through their neighborhood Friday during the elementary school’s annual peace parade.

Principal Will Campbell said he thinks the school is the only one in the area to hold a parade, complete with a Gainesville Police escort.

The event was the idea of art teacher Tracy Troutman. Students carried various art projects proclaiming messages of peace.

A stop at Chattahoochee Bank of Georgia then featured a performance by the chorus and dance team.

The dancing extended to the streets and back at the parking lot of the school, with teachers showing off their moves and students squealing as their favorite songs came over the loudspeaker.

Then it was back to class.
