Libertarian candidate Rhonda Martini withdrew Wednesday from the Georgia lieutenant governor's race.

Martini left the race to tend to family issues.

"We're supporting her decision. Family first is very important to us," said Libertarian Party of Georgia spokesman Brett Bittner.

"We commend her for the dedication she's shown and our thoughts and prayers are with her."

The Official Code of Georgia (O.C.G.A. § 21-2-134) allows the party to substitute a candidate in the event of withdrawal.

"We held a quick meeting (Wednesday) to accept a resolution for a substitute candidate," Bittner said.

Late Wednesday, Dan Barber of Buford appeared as the new Libertarian candidate for lieutenant governor on the secretary of state's website.

According to the site, Barber is 46 and self-employed.

Bittner said the party would release information about Barber once the paperwork necessary for substitution is finalized and approved by the secretary of state's office.

In November, Barber will face incumbent Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, a Republican, and Democrat Carol Porter.
