About this story
This story is the first collaboration of the newly formed Georgia Newspaper Partnership, a group of 13 daily newspapers, including The Times, that has joined to provide comprehensive coverage of the gubernatorial and congressional campaigns.

Today’s story on the mood of voters was reported by staffers from 11 of the GNP members. Reporters spoke to more than 150 Georgians in communities across the state, though not everyone interviewed is included in the story. Below is a list of the contributing newspapers and reporters:

Dear readers,

2010 is shaping up to be one of the most important election years in Georgia history. Never before has the role of daily newspapers in this process been so crucial. To do our part to help you stay informed, The Times has joined 12 other Georgia newspapers to create the Georgia Newspaper Partnership, reaching 2.2 million readers each Sunday.

This union of newsrooms from Chattanooga to Valdosta will provide detailed reporting on candidates and issues to give you more information on races for governor and Congress. We’ll share content so you’ll know that what a candidate tells a voter in Valdosta is the same thing he says in Gainesville. We’ll also team up to write joint stories, such as the one about the mood of voters in today’s edition.

On July 11, we’ll publish results of the first of three statewide polls commissioned by the GNP. (On the same day, The Times will publish a comprehensive Voter’s Guide.)

Throughout history, newspapers have played an important role in the democratic process. We strive to keep politicians honest and report when they aren’t. Through this historic partnership, The Times is in a better position to give you what you need to make informed decisions when you vote.

As always, I welcome your thoughts and feedback. Please e-mail me at editor@gainesvilletimes.com.

Thanks for reading The Times.
