Thanks to early voting in Georgia, you don't have to wait until Feb. 5 to take part in the Super Tuesday presidential primaries.
Advance voting begins Monday across the state, and some counties have more than just the presidential preference primaries on the ballot. Nearby Jackson and Lumpkin counties each will vote on liquor-by-the-drink referendums.
Lumpkin election official Kimberly Pruitt said the referendum on liquor by the drink in the county, as well as the presidential primary, are generating a lot of interest. Pruitt said some 150 people came in to register to vote on Jan. 7, the final day to register to vote in the Georgia primary.
Jackson County voters also will consider permitting liquor-by-the-drink sales on Sundays in unincorporated Jackson County. A $15 million parks and recreation bond also is on the ballot in Jackson. The county would purchase about 340 acres of park land throughout the county and build several recreation fields and facilities.
In Hall, Banks, Dawson, Habersham and White counties, only the primaries are up on Super Tuesday.
