Starting next month, those who are elderly or home bound can get help paying heating costs through Ninth District Opportunity.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program will open on Nov. 3 to households in which every member is at least 65 years of age or bedridden due to health conditions.

Those who meet the criteria and are interested in applying for this program can sign up in person from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 3 at the Army Reserve Center at 570 Shallowford Road in Gainesville or by calling 770-534-8826 beginning at 9 a.m. Nov. 3.

When applying for assistance, persons will be required to present verification of age for everyone in the home, verification of all household income received within the past 30 days, verification of Social Security numbers for everyone in the home, and the most recent home heating bill.

If funds remain after the elderly households are served, the program will open to all ages on Dec. 1.
