The Hall County Sheriff’s Office reported the autopsy results of a Lake Lanier drowning victim indicated no foul play. The investigation is ongoing.

Authorities identified the woman found dead in Lake Lanier on Friday as Michelle Dianne Baxter, 32, of Gainesville. Her body was found facedown in the lake by fishermen just after 8 a.m. on the northern end of Lanier near the Chattahoochee River arm near newly opened Don Carter State Park.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Chad Mann said Baxter had “no major injuries,” except those consistent “if a person were traversing from the brush to the lake,” according to an autopsy by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s office.

Mann said the official cause of death is pending the results of a toxicology test, which should come back “in a few weeks.”

Sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said witnesses reported seeing a woman of the same description swimming in the same area late Thursday evening. He said she lived in a home near where the body was found.
