A North Hall man faces murder charges after his stepbrother died as the result of injuries from a Friday afternoon fight, Hall County Sheriff’s officials said Sunday.

William R. Gable, 26, was charged with murder late Saturday, a day after 36-year-old Steven Paul Brookshire suffered severe head injuries after being struck with a stick, Hall County Sheriff’s Col. Jeff Strickland said.

Brookshire succumbed to his injuries late Saturday at Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was airlifted in extremely critical condition after the domestic dispute with his stepbrother, Strickland said.

At about 5:30 p.m. Friday, deputies were called to a domestic disturbance at a mobile home at 4426 Ledan Extension.

Officers found Brookshire lying unconscious in a yard outside the trailer.

Witnesses told authorities that Brookshire and Gable had been quarreling prior to the fight. At some point during the fight, Brookshire was struck with a stick, Strickland said.

Gable was taken to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office for questioning and initially charged with aggravated battery under the Georgia Family Violence Act.

He remains in the Hall County jail without bond.
