Danny’s Donuts has opened a second location on Dawsonville Highway in Gainesville.

The store, which is in the Kohl's-anchored McEver Corners Shopping Center, hit the sweet tooth at the right time, opening on Valentine’s Day.

No heart-shaped doughnuts were on display as customers studied offerings behind a glass counter Tuesday, Feb. 20.

But Jackie Parks had no special preferences.

“I don’t have a favorite (doughnut). They’re all good,” she said. “I recommend all of the doughnuts.”

And making purchases extra sweet is a grand opening special — two free doughnuts with a dozen and one free doughnut with a half-dozen — that will run for a little while longer.

Danny’s Donuts second location

Where: 975 Dawsonville Highway, Suite 19, Gainesville

Hours: 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily

Contact: 470-892-6511

The menu is the same as at Danny’s location at 417 Main St. SW in Gainesville, just behind the CVS Pharmacy on Jesse Jewell Parkway. That location opened in September 2016.

Doughnuts include cream-filled varieties, as well as glazed and ones topped with icing and sprinkles  — and one featuring maple icing and bacon. Also on the menu are apple fritters, cinnamon rolls, bear claws and croissants

Other offerings include breakfast pastries and croissants, as well as a long list of beverages, such as smoothies and coffees.

Andy Nuon, Danny’s owner, said he was pleased with the amount of business the store has been getting so far.

Being in a highly visible location doesn’t hurt.

The 1,400-square-foot shop directly faces a busy and fast-growing stretch of Dawsonville Highway, and the right-in and right-out access is especially easy for southbound traffic headed toward McEver.

“There’s a lot of shopping centers (in the area), and Dawsonville Highway has a lot of traffic,” Nuon said in an earlier interview. “That location needs doughnuts there, also.”

Work has started on a third store, this one in the Kroger-anchored shopping center off Winder Highway in Oakwood. The new business will be next to the Subway restaurant.

Nuon hopes to open the new location this summer.

Like Dawsonville Highway, Winder Highway has a fair amount of traffic. And the store would be in a busy area mixing residential — Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club is nearby — and commercial.

“It’s not only (a lot of traffic),” Nuon said. “There’s no doughnuts over there.”
