Hall County - Gainesville-Hall Animal Control has confirmed the county’s 17th rabies case of the year after contact between a rabid skunk and a dog on Thursdays in the Shoal Creek Road area.
The skunk was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur, where it tested positive for rabies.
The dog was current on its rabies shots. It will be re-vaccinated and watched for 45 days for any signs of the disease.
Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the skunk was located. Residents in the area are asked to report any animals acting abnormally to Animal Control at 770-531-6830; during nonworking hours, call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.
